Shea butter is the natural fat from the nuts of the shea tree, which grows in West Africa. It is rich and creamy and melts on contact with warm skin, which makes it a favourite on its own for dry areas, as a base for homemade body butters and scrubs, and in handmade soap.

- Dry skin: warm a small amount between your hands until it melts and massage into dry areas such as elbows, knees, hands and feet.
- Body scrub: melt one part shea butter and mix it with two parts fine salt or sugar. Massage onto damp skin and rinse with warm water.
- Soap and DIY cosmetics: add to melt & pour soap, balms and creams according to your recipe.
- Melt it gently and let it cool quickly, as shea butter can turn grainy if it cools too slowly.
- If you have a nut allergy, ask your doctor before using shea butter.
- Store tightly closed in a cool, dark place.
