Cetyl alcohol is a waxy, white fatty alcohol that thickens homemade creams, lotions, body butters and scrubs and helps keep them stable. Despite its name, it is not a drying alcohol like the one in hand sanitiser, and it gives your creations a richer, less greasy feel.

- Use it as part of a recipe for creams, lotions, body butters or scrub bars, not on its own.
- A typical amount is 1–5% of the total recipe weight. Use more for a thicker texture.
- Melt it together with the oils and butters in a heat-resistant bowl over a water bath, then follow your recipe.
- Store tightly closed in a cool, dry place.
- Not for consumption. Keep out of reach of children.
